Now that 5G is getting a lot of attention, it’s hard to remember the humble beginnings of wireless cellular technology. During the 1980s, 1G was introduced and enabled wireless voice communication via analog signals. Then 2G came along in the 1990s to revolutionize wireless communication with digitally encrypted phone conversations and SMS text messages. The early 2000s brought adoption of 3G, which enabled video calls, mobile TV technologies and Internet access. Today, most of us have access to 4G which supports data for mobile web access, gaming services, high-definition video and photo transfer and even 3D television.
