IBM Unveils System i Roadmap / VAI Doubles Server Placements In 2007!
As an IBM Premier Business Partner and IBM System i ™ software developer, VAI is keenly aware of IBM’s product development initiatives, which is why IBM had a significant presence at this year’s User Conference. For attendees, it was an extraordinary opportunity to learn about the System i directly from the source.
Dr. Frank Soltis, IBM System i Chief Scientist, also known as the “Father of the System i,” outlined the technology behind the world-renowned IBM i5/OS operating system. In addition, Dr. Soltis spoke about the future direction of the System i product line.
The benefits of the System i are many. By design, the System i family is highly secure and virus resistant. It has the capability to run numerous operating systems and application environments on one system. The result is a simple, affordable, highly capable solution featuring outstanding price performance, reliability, manageability, legendary security, the flexibility to start small and grow to meet new business demands.
In 2007, the System i experienced a dramatic sales increase due to a significant boost in power and a considerable reduction in cost. This made it extremely enticing to our customers. VAI doubled server sales from the previous year.
What does the future hold for the System i? Kevin Beasley, VAI’s CIO, commented that, “The i5/OS operating system will continue to be a dominant platform in the SMB space, with further inroads to the small business market. The near future sees the System i going back to its small business roots, while continuing to serve the largest enterprises in the world.
