Since the 1950s, McCall's Inc. has been a family-owned Jacksonville, South Carolina based distributor of heating, air-conditioning, ventilation and cooling parts and equipment. They have 2,500 customers, 135 employees in 17 locations, and annual sales of $38 million.
"Easy access to history has made the biggest difference!" Carla continues. "I can get all the information I need without printing any reports. I make heavy use of the systems online information."
McCall's migrated from IBM's DMAS to VAI's S2K Enterprise and the IBM AS/400 in 1995. "Before VAI, we had no access to history. Now, we can easily access sales, inventory, and more."
With inventory history, McCall's has been able to bring inventory accuracy up to 99%. Carla says, "We have a real good handle on what comes in, what goes out, what gets transferred to a branch, what was sold, and who dropped the ball. This has not only helped us tighten up our inventory, but we turnover our inventory faster since VAI."
In addition to improving inventory control, S2K Enterprise has helped McCall's improve collections and pull in Accounts Receivable. "I make heavy use of A/R history. High balances, average days to pay, every check posted, every note of every conversation we have had. This makes it very easy for me when a customer requests a credit increase. Since we installed S2K Enterprise, we have practically eliminated bad debt" says Carla.
S2K Enterprise has made a big impact in accounting as well. "We stock most of our inventory here at the head office. So the branches call in everyday to request parts to take to our customers. Inter-company inventory transfers were awkward and time-consuming. The multiple journal entries inflated sales and we would be faced with extra time and effort to get everything properly recorded. With S2K Enterprise, inter-company inventory transfers are a breeze."
"Our business is very seasonal, so forecasting is difficult. S2K Enterprise provides us with detailed sales analysis by location, customer, and item. We cannot tell what the future holds, but S2K Enterprise helps us prepare. It must, because we grew sales by $4 million last year. We know better how to anticipate the sales trend."
